
Module IX: Anaphylaxis and Allergy Management
This module prepares school nurses and trained school personnel to recognize and respond to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis in school settings. You will learn how to identify signs and symptoms of severe allergic reactions, understand the role of designated and undesignated epinephrine, and take immediate action during an emergency. You’ll also review DC Health requirements for epinephrine storage, staff certification, incident reporting, and follow-up procedures — all focused on protecting student safety and ensuring compliance with District guidelines.

Through this course, participants will learn:
- Identify federal and local laws which justify the presence of trained AOM’s in the school setting.
- State the 6 reasons to give medication.
- Differentiate between the desired effects, side effects, and adverse effects of medication
- Identify the relationship between the formula of a medication and its route of administration.
